About

About Buildopsy

System design postmortems that price real architectures, down to the cost per request.

About the site

Buildopsy is an independent publication about how production systems actually behave: distributed systems, AI infrastructure, telemetry pipelines, APIs plus cloud bills. Each piece reconstructs an architecture from public company disclosures, technical papers plus credible reporting, then prices it with RPS math and cost models you can re-run in the calculators.

Two kinds of writing live here: practical architecture RFCs grounded in engineering experience, plus research-led postmortems of real incidents and launches. Modeled cost figures are explicitly labeled as estimates, never private invoices.

Editorial policy

Research-led, dry, explicit about assumptions. Every teardown separates what was claimed from what was proved, links its sources, and labels modeled numbers as estimates. Corrections are published, not buried. No tracking, no backend, no sponsored conclusions.

Core topics

Golang, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, SQS, PostgreSQL, observability, SRE, system design, cloud migration, API design plus AI infrastructure economics.

Research desk, Buildopsy

A skeptical research desk voice covering incident files and disclosure audits. Shorter sentences, sharper corrections, deadpan jokes, and a habit of separating what was claimed from what was proved. The footnote is where the body is buried.

Writes the AI Slop Watch incident files and disclosure audits in AI Slop Watch.
